first_img[h/t – Billboard] You would be hard-pressed to find another husband-and-wife banjo duo that packs as much sonic punch as the tag-team of Bela Fleck & Abigail Washburn (you’d probably be hard-pressed to find any other husband-and-wife banjo duo, but that’s beside the point). On October 20th, the couple released the the follow-up to their self-titled 2014 debut, Echo In The Valley, which debuted at No. 1 on the Bluegrass Albums chart and No. 9 on the Americana Albums chart.Watch Béla Fleck & Abigail Washburn Daze & Amuse Suwannee Roots RevivalThis time around, however, they came into recording with a renewed focus on original material and, as Billboard puts it, “a more austere, two-person approach to the recording…Both were marked by a creative give-and-take and plenty of negotiation as the two — who are used to steering their own musical ships — learned how to work in tandem.”The clip, directed by Alex Chaloff, features Fleck playing on cello banjo and Washburn on a fretless banjo as the camera swirls 360 degrees around their performance. Fleck and Washburn sit facing each other in a dark room, staring into their partner’s eyes with palpable chemistry as the camera revolves around them. “This song in particular is a little complicated. I guess you could say it’s hard to tap your foot throughout the whole thing,” Washburn tells Billboard. “One of the things we wanted to do was show people, on our instruments, what’s happening and use the (video) to help people understand the song musically.”Continues Fleck bout the “face-off” style of the new visuals, “A lot of times doing videos to the camera can be pretty static or canned looking…But this idea that we’re looking at each other and engaging with each other, I thought that really helped the feeling of video a lot. He had a track built around us and the camera guys spinning around and around at different speeds to create excitement. I think it was a neat idea.”You can watch Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn’s music video for “Don’t Let It Bring You Down” from their newly released album, Echo In The Valley, below courtesy of Rounder Records‘ YouTube page, via of Billboard‘s official video premiere:You can also stream Echo In The Valley in its entirety below, via Spotify: last_img read more
