El Paso Electric plans major renewable and storage investments for new capacity needs

first_imgEl Paso Electric plans major renewable and storage investments for new capacity needs FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailPrint分享Energy Storage News:Electricity from 100MW of energy storage facilities will be purchased by US public utility company El Paso Electric, following a competitive solicitation process.Headquartered in Texas and serving more than 400,000 customers in that state and in New Mexico, the utility determined that it required additional generation and energy management resources in place by the time the 2022 and 2023 summer peaks in electricity demand happen. The utility currently owns around 2,153MW of generation facilities.El Paso Electric put out its 2017 “All Source Request for Proposals for Electric Power Supply and Load Management Resources” as a consequence, competitively tendering for both the construction of new projects including solar, storage and natural gas and for the purchase of power from third-party owned generation facilities.Winning proposals remain subject to their obtaining required environmental and construction permits as well as gaining approval from the respective Public Utility Commission of Texas and New Mexico’s Public Regulation Commission. El Paso Electric said the projects chosen and the mix of diverse choices is in line with the need to deploy “cost-effective, diverse and competitive-based energy resources for its customers” in expanding its portfolio, as well as advancing a strategic goal to “remain at the forefront in advancing renewable energy”.The utility selected: 200MW of utility-scale solar; 100MW of energy storage; 226MW new natural gas combustion turbine unit at existing power station; [and] 50MW to 150MW of wind and solar power purchases.More: El Paso Electric elects for 100MW of storage in 370MW capacity pushlast_img read more

Interstate buyer wave has hit Brisbane

first_imgNatalie Winter and her husband were surprised at the level of demand for their $1.3 million investment property. Picture: Darren England.THE affordability wave is washing investors from southern capitals into Brisbane — and they’re demanding $1 million-plus housing.Brisbane’s affordable property prices, compared to those in Sydney and Melbourne, are driving more buyers into the local market.Corelogic figures reveal Brisbane’s top ten suburbs for house price growth in the past 12-months was dominated by $900,000-plus addresses.Milton was among the best performers during the past 12 months. It’s median house price of $964,000 reflected a 34 per cent increase on the previous year.Tenneriffe, Robertson, Wilston and Hamilton were also among the top spots with median prices in excess of $1 million and growth ranging from 16 per cent to 29 per cent over the year.Ray White New Farm agent, Christine Rudolph, said there was no doubt real estate in the early $1 million price point was hot property.“We’re definitely seeing groups of up to 20 people per weekend coming through the property and it’s not unusual to have multiple offers prior to auction,’’ she said.Ms Rudolph said there was no doubt southern investors had arrived in force looking for good quality Brisbane stock.“The reason they’re looking to invest in Brisbane is that the market’s become so hot in Sydney that that sort of figure is now buying you a one-bedroom apartment in Potts Point, or a two-bedroom apartment in the eastern suburbs and the rental yield on both those properties is quite low.“At the moment were really seeing a shortage of good quality stock in the key suburbs,” Ms Rudolph said.Property Pursuit buyer’s agency, director, Meighan Hetherington, said there had been an uptick in demand from southern clients.More from newsMould, age, not enough to stop 17 bidders fighting for this home2 hours agoBuyers ‘crazy’ not to take govt freebies, says 28-yr-old investor8 hours ago“They’re looking for that better quality location and that better quality property and they’re prepared to spend,” Ms Hetherington said.“The sweet spot for Sydney investors at the moment appears to be around $1.2 million, and that seems to be where a great deal of demand is coming from.”Natalie Winter and her husband timed their run perfectly.Their renovation project on the Ascot/Hamilton border resulted in a profit of more than $300,000 when they sold late last year. The couple bought the cottage in 2012 for $690,000 and created a grand four-bedroom, three-bathroom residence.Ms Winter said they were caught off guard by the level of demand which saw the property sell for $1.35 million at auction.“I think we had 80 people at the auction. It was ridiculous. There was no room for people — they were spilling out the doors.”“We had a lot of Sydney buyers as well — that was interesting — and professional couples with no kids as well.”Ms Winter said some local buyers have had to up their budgets in order to compete with interstate investors.“We had a couple of (local) buyers that had spoken to our agent who said they were just struggling to actually get any of the houses they’re looking at.”last_img read more
