Man United’s ‘game changing’ winger, but could he be on his way out of the club?

first_img Demetri Mitchell is being linked with a move to Southampton 1 Manchester United continue to boast one of the best youth academies in the country and while they have not produced a standout senior player for some time, that could change with the emergence of winger Demetri Mitchell. But could the 17-year-old be on his way out of the club? talkSPORT takes a look…Name: Demetri MitchellDate of birth: 11 January, 1997Birthplace: Manchester, EnglandPosition: WingerClub: Manchester UnitedInternational: England U17 (14 appearances/One goal)What’s the latest? After seeing his squad obliterated, Southampton boss Ronald Koeman is in a race against time to rebuild sufficiently ahead of the new Premier League season. The Dutchman has already brought in two players, and could add to that with Man United youngster Demetri Mitchell, with reports claiming that he could be heading to St Mary’s on loan.Did you know?1) Mitchell may only be 17 years old, but he has certainly made an impression in the youth ranks of both United and England, and it is no surprise that he has attracted interest from clubs across England and Europe.2) He has an eye for the spectacular, and as such has scored some stunning goals for both United and England, including this well-taken effort for the Three Lions’ U17s.3) Having gained recognition for the England U16s, he has continued in the same vein for the U17s – recording 14 appearances to date, scoring one goal. His performances during the Victory Shield contributed greatly to his selection for the U17 European Championship side, which England won earlier this year.4) He is a natural winger, operating on the left side of the pitch, but appears to be equally comfortable anywhere along the front line and has been known to play as a striker for Man United. The Red Devils’ coaching staff have high hopes for Mitchell and have labeled him a ‘game-changer’, ear-marking his explosive pace and ability to run at players as his greatest strengths.5) He names Wayne Rooney as one of the players he most looks up to, commenting: “He’s a brilliant player to look up to. At United he’s quite humble and gives advice to the young lads. He’s quite active with the youth side of it.“Also, he’s another forward player too so it has got to be a goal to try and emulate him and the success he has had.”Video evidenceDemetri Mitchell featuring for Man United’s youth ranksMan United fans, should you loan Mitchell to Southampton?
