GAA NEWS – GLENSWILLY TO HOLD IMPORTANT MEETING FOR UNDERAGE SET-UP

first_imgThe Clubs successful annual dinner dance rounded of a wonderful year for Glenswilly GAA. Attended by 400 people, the night celebrated all that made 2013 a memorable year for our Club. The awards on the night went to a very delighted Caolan Kelly for Senior player of the year. The reserve player award was shared with the daddy of the team “Big” Gerard McGrenra and twenty years his junior Oisin Crawford. Young player of the year went to Ryan Hunter and third team player of the year went to another rising star of the future, Padraig Boyle.Clubman of the year went to Mr All-rounder George Simmons, the man who cooked, washed, kitted, lottoed and painted his way to this much deserved award. Well done George. Cultural award went to one of the most valuable members within the Club, Mr Dietmar Goepport. The value of this mans contribution to anything happening, especially in the Club Hall, cannot be underestimated. A fitting winner. Michael Murphy received a special recognition award for Captaining Ireland to success in the International Rules Test against Australia.Appreciation awards were made to Finnbar Glackin, James Pat McDaid and Jim Gallagher for their commitment and dedication to their beloved Glenswilly Club.The Ulster Council President Mr Martin McAviney made the trip from Monaghan to award the seniors with their Championship medals and the Div.2 all county league medals. The reserve team were also presented with their reserve league medals.County Chairman Mr Sean Dunnion was also present on the night and spoke highly of Glenswilly’s year. The presence of the Dr Maguire, the Sandy Harper and the Cormac McAnallen cups made it a memorable night for photographs. The club acknowledged Joe Gibbons and his wife Suzanna on their wedding this year and not to forget the Glen’s adopted son Mr Eamonn Ward, who showed his romantic side by taking his beau Sinead Doherty off to Rome and proposing to her in front of the Tivoli fountain recently. Thankfully for Eamonn she said Yes.Thanks to Mr Charlie Collins who was MC for the night and kept us all entertained with his usual craic and wit and kept the night flowing smoothly.A meeting concerning Underage development within the Club will take place in the Club House this coming Friday, 10th of January at 7 o’clock. All coaches, managers, parents and any club member who wishes to contribute and get involved with underage in the coming year are urged to come along.The Clubs AGM will take place in the Club House this coming Saturday evening the 11th of January at 8 o’clock.Congratulations to Gary”copper McFadden who started and played alongside club colleague Michael Murphy for Donegal in the McKenna Cup game v Tyrone on Sunday past. Although the result didn’t go Donegal’s way, it was a great run out for our lads.
